Revising
- Make a revision timetable, allotting a set amount of time to revise a specific topic, i.e. 6pm-7pm Photosynthesis, 9pm-10pm Schizophrenia etc.
- Reduce your notes into bullet points or small bite size chunks of key information. This might be tedious to do, but smaller bits of info are way easier to remember than long paragraphs.
- Use revision guides, they really can help and give you a good idea of the kind of things you should be revising.
- Revise somewhere where you won't get distracted – your bedroom, the garden, wherever…
- …but if you fancy some company then why not have a revision party with your mates? You can test each other on stuff and it will be a laugh too.
- Don’t over do it! Revising into the wee small hours never did anyone any good. Make sure you get a good night's sleep so you can start again in the morning, as fresh as a daisy.
The actual exam - eek!
- Before you leave the house make sure you’ve got everything you need – two pens, lucky Troll, your copy of Macbeth etc…
- Give yourself plenty of time to get there – missing your bus or getting stuck in traffic will send your stress levels through the roof.
- Make sure you know exactly where it is and when it is – turning up at the wrong gym half an hour late is a no-no!
- When the exam starts give yourself a moment or two to chill out. Stretch your legs and have a brief read through the exam paper – you might even find that it’s not so bad after all!
- Plan your answers, giving yourself a set amount of time to write each one. This will avoid you spending too long on one question and having to rush the others.
- This might seem obvious, but make sure you actually answer the question! It is freakishly easy to simply blurt out everything you know about a subject – don’t! Make sure you apply what you know to what you’re being asked.
- Ignore other people. If the person next to you is finished an hour early it doesn’t mean they’ve got any of it right!
And if all else fails, just remember you've got the summer hols to look forward to! Good luck!
