It's Graduate Fashion Week!
It’s Graduate Fashion Week, the annual showcase for BA Graduate fashion design talent in the UK.

Since it launched in 1991, winners have gone on to work for Gucci, Donna Karan and Calvin Klein. It was also the launch pad for world famous designers such as John Galliano, Alexander McQueen, Stella McCartney (see below for her fashion profile) and Julien Macdonald.

A registered charity, it relies on the sponsorship and this year is sponsored by River Island, leading to the River Island Gold Award, presented for the most outstanding collection in the Gala Show. The Award offers £20,000 for the winning student, and is the only prize of its kind within UK Fashion Education, and is a first for Graduate Fashion Week.

Designer profile: Stella McCartney
Though she has a famous Dad, Stella McCartney has become a superstar in her own right with her massively successful career in the fashion industry.

Born in 1972, she graduated from London’s Central St Martins College of Art & Design in 1995 and her student collection was snapped up by London boutique Tokio. She set up her own label later that year. In 1997 she was appointed as Chief Designer at French couture house Chloe, where her predecessor was Karl Lagerfeld.

Her first collection for Chloe in October 1997 was an immediate hit - sensuous and romantic in style , teaming lacy petticoats with fine tailoring and giving 70s trousersuits a 90s spin.

Like her late mum, Stella is passionate about animal rights and in 1998 she teamed up with PeTA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals) to make a video championing animal rights.

In 2001, Stella left Chloe to join Gucci, where she has since developed her own label as a luxury global brand.
